The Road to Citizenship is Opening Up ...Will You Be Ready?

After many years of discussion the have ended in nothing but frustration for many immigrants, Congress is finally beginning to consider some pathway to citizenship, especially for students and their parents who have lived here for many years. So, how do you prepare?

Here are my suggestions:

  1. Learn English! You may think your English is Okay, but can you read and write in English? This will, no doubt, be on the list of requirements. These skills are on the citizenship test now.

  1. Learn something about American culture. Although there are similarities, American culture is unique. You need to know about ways of living and doing business, as well as social interaction.

  1. Volunteer for something. By volunteering you show that you are interested in your community and that you are trying to relate to Americans.

  1. Learn some business skills. America is all about doing business. The more you know, the more valuable you are to your employers.

  1. File taxes. Even if you do not have a social security number, you can still file. The government will be glad to take your money, and you can prove that you have been doing your part to support the country.

Eventually, you will probably need to take a test. Begin studying now! Be so familiar with these requirements that they simply come to you, without a great deal of thought.

Need help? As always, we are there to help you in these areas.

No More ESL Classes!

We have a saying in America, "Enough is Enough!"

How much ESL is enough? When can you begin to study for your degree? If you are ambitious and want to get started, you need to know something important about education in America.

If you have been learning English to attend college in the US, you need to know about the key that opens the door to higher education. It is English 101, Basic English Composition.

If you take this course from an accredited institution and pass it - you are free to go on and study for your degree - in your major!

No More ESL

That's right -- No More ESL

But, you say, "How can I take English 101 when they say my English isn't strong enough?"

Well, what do you think?

A more important question is: Are you willing to work hard at getting better?

If you answered, "YES" to these two questions, you may be ready to take the English 101 course offered by Straighterline.com. Anyone can take this course - high school student, never-been-to-school, foreigner - anyone. Or, you can take English 101 online. Any high school graduate can take this course - and there are many good, accredited online schools to choose from!

There is no placement test!

No other qualifications.

It is completely online.

If you are interested, need more information, or just call or come in for a visit -- we will be glad to talk to you. Maybe you don't needd any more ESL!
