How do Young People Learn English?

It should come as no surprise in this era of instant communication, that younger people are learning English through media other than the traditional books and teachers. Although teachers are still important, internet, movies and TV have become more important.

Like many of our students, speaking is the most important thing to them.  But they believe that they are not getting it in their local schools.  They complain that there is too much focus on grammar - not enough on communication.  They don't like "listen and repeat" or memorizing verb conjugations.

So, how do they learn?

Well, they play video games in English, watch American movies, listen to music in English and talk about themselves with friends on Facebook and My Space.  Twitter is an easy way to practice, too.

The big advantage to these methods, of course, is that they can be done any time, any place, 24 hours a day.

At some point, of course, you need to visit an English-speaking country.  Only there (here) will you learn authentic English!  It also helps to have small groups, led by sympathetic teachers--like we have here, at the LVA School.

New Semester Starting

Another Semester, Another Chance!

It is now mid-August, and we at the school are getting ready for another semester, which is set to start on August 29th. Some of our old friends, who took to summer off, will be coming back. And we will see a lot of new faces, of course. But there are many who think they cannot do it - they are too old, have been away for too long, or simply cannot learn

If that is the case with you, or someone you know, tell them, "No, it is not true." It is never too late, because learning is forever. Anyone who wants to can continue to learn, to improve, to make himself better.

Whether you are after English as a Second Language, the GED diploma, Citizenship, or studying for a new job, we are here to help. We have been doing it since 1974, so we think we know how to do it.

You just need the desire - We will do the rest.
